St. Ann School Drama is ready to make a splash with its spring production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. With catchy songs, colorful costumes, and a fun one-hour runtime, this show is the perfect introduction to live theater for young audiences.
For families with little ones, attending live theater can sometimes feel intimidating. Will they sit still? Will they whisper too loudly? At St. Ann’s Drama performances, those worries disappear! These shows are designed specifically for families—fun, engaging, just one hour long, and packed with that familiar Disney magic.
The audience is encouraged to laugh, cheer, and react—and the young actors love it when kids in the seats are having just as much fun as they are on stage.
This year’s 8th-grade cast features several standout performers:
Mary Schafer as Ariel
Lara Royko as Ursula
Leo Brimmer as Scuttle
Grace Bailey as Sebastian
In Their Own Words:
“I love how Sebastian goes from not wanting to really be with Ariel to being good friends.”
— Grace Bailey (Sebastian)
“Getting to sing these iconic songs on stage is a dream—I’ve loved Ariel since I was little!”
— Mary Schafer (Ariel)
“Scuttle is so fun to play because he’s full of energy and a little ridiculous—but in the best way!”
— Leo Brimmer (Scuttle)
“Playing Ursula is fun because I get to wear a pretty cool dress and sing a fun song!”
— Lara Royko (Ursula)
While the students shine on stage, the magic wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated team working behind the scenes:
DeeDee Bouzek – Lead Director
Jessica Royko – Production Manager & Head of the Drama Committee
Together, they bring experience, coordination, and heart to every rehearsal and performance, creating a supportive and inspiring environment for all involved.
This year’s production is bittersweet as it marks the final show for beloved director DeeDee Bouzek, who has been a pillar of the program since 2001, taking over as lead director 18 years ago. DeeDee has nurtured the talents of countless students and supported many as they transitioned to the Stoughton High School Drama Program, where she also directs.
She leaves the program in the capable hands of Sarah Barnes, who will take over next year—ready to carry forward the spirit, creativity, and love of theater that DeeDee cultivated so passionately.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr. is a joyful, affordable, and community-centered celebration of young talent. It’s the perfect outing for families who want to laugh, sing, and enjoy a morning or evening of live entertainment together.
